I have looked and touched just about every gun out there while I have been shopping around. It will be used as a night stand gun and on the ranch only - no CCW. Really looking for the negatives and any real life experiences. Is the no safey issue as bad as some make it out to be?

Glocks are plenty safe. I hear it all the time about how Glocks are ticking time bombs because they dont have a saftey. The truth is they have a safe action trigger system as thier saftey. Unless that little lever in the center of the trigger is depressed it aint going BOOM.

Buy that 19. Its proven its self time and time again!

The biggest negative is it isnt a 1911. Thats a deal breaker for me.

If you had a AD due to a malfunction of a safety in a Glock you would be the first Ive heard of.

There are 3 Safeties in a Glock.

Trigger Safety - You have a split trigger design so you have to deliberatly pull the trigger, it can't go off by snagging one of the edges, or dropping on the ground.

Firing pin Safety - The Spring-loaded firing pin safety projects into the firing pin chanel and mechanically blocks the firing pin from moving foward. When the trigger is being moved rearwards, a vertical extension of the trigger bar pushes the firing pin safety upwards, clearinf the firing pin chanel and allowing it to strike the primer. Or blocks said movement in the event of dropping or ruff handling.

Drop Safety - While stationary the Trigger Bar is sitting atop a shelf in the lower and connot move out of the way to release the firing pin, as it is moved rearwards by manipulating the trigger it drops free and allows the firing pin to release.

You can take a loaded glock and throw it across a room and it will not go off.

Lastly of all the most important safety is the one between your ears. Obviously if you handle a firearm improperly it can have dire results, like wise if you handle one with properly you won't.

I'ts not any less safe than any other gun, any gun when you remove the safety and pull the trigger will go off, if you rely on a safety to keep you safe from a AD you will probally have a accident at some point in your life as safetys can fail, if you never have a manual safety to rely upon in the first place you handle said firearm in a more appropriate maner.

The only other thing I would say for you to think about is, if your not going to CC the gun you might think about the 17 or 34. As with the longer barrels there more accurate and have 2 more round capacity in the magazine.

G19 is a mighty fine weapon. Only reason I don't carry one is because Luv2brode had a motorcycle I wanted and now he has it...

Also because I don't use a holster, I'm founder and president of the Mexican Carry Club THF chapter. Probably wouldn't get an AD but that close to my nards I take no chances...

As long as you have a good holster I see no reason whatsoever not to go with the 19. I like the 19's grip better than the 17's. You can use the extended mags if you really want to, but if I can't do it in 15 then it ain't gonna get done...

Cough, CZ75 Compact by the way...

If you aren't concealing it check out the 17. You get an extra 1/2 inch of barrel and 2 more rounds.

I would get the Gen 3 Glock 19 if you were planning to get one. I've heard some issues about the new gen 4 models.

glocks feel like square board in my hand. Pick up a few and feel them in your hand, glocks are dead last at fitting in your hand properly.

Theres must be reason Glocks are carried by more LEO than any other manufacturer. The fact that Magpul stands behind Glock also says alot.

I wouldnt shy away from the Gen 4. I have experience with a Gen4 G22 and G26. No issues. I feel they are a drastic difference ergonomically from Gen3

Glock is a fine weapon, I carry a Glock 19 daily.

Member Cold (guy who did the famous torture test) did the same with either a sig or HK, can't remember which and it choked terribly. I will find that link when I get home.

Thats the other thing...do a google search on "glock toture test" then do the same for any other handgun manufacturer. Outside of the Springfield XD there are few than can hang.

I have tried real hard to join the "1911 Club" for many years. They look great, feel great, and there is this nostalgia thing about them. I have had at least a dozen 1911's over the years that I have traded for. All were either Colts or Springfields, nothing else. The last one was a Springfield 1911 loaded. It was the only one that wasn't a jammo-matic. Being I do some trading here and there I would still take another one on trade that somebody wanted to just give away like that Springer Loaded. However, it will be history as soon as somebody wants to offer a profit on it.

My keepers are a H&K USP 40 and Glocks. To the original poster the G19 is one of my favorites. If you want something that you just might stick in your pocket you might try a G26. For a night stand gun you could put a G17 or G19 mag in it. They sell a sleeve at Lone Wolf Distributors that slips over the mag to make the grip feel a little more natural.

The Glock 19 is an excellent pistol! I just happen to prefer the Springfield XD. You can't go wrong with either. The finish on the Glock is more durable than Springfield's, unless you get the XD in stainless.

I love Glocks. Specifically 19's.

I carry Sigs, but have been known to cheat on her with a Glock...
