Hey guys, I was reading this article about the Texas budget deficit and was wondering what you guys thought about this situation. Could you guys express your thoughts about Rick Perry? I hear a lot of people that don't like him, but what specifically don't you like about him.

i like the guy, he has the right attitude ( small goverment, power to the states, hes a do nothing govenor (thats a good thing)).

When ur state is in a time of economic prosperity while the rest of the country is in the opposite, id say hes doing a pretty good job.....

Perry is a politician, but at least he will listen to the voters...Even if it takes a few years of us yelling at the tops of our voices...

The Trans-Texas Corridor was a big ol' problem for us Texans and was a pet project of Perry's. Thankfully, I believe that we've seen the last of that nasty thing...At least for the foreseeable future.

Perry also screwed up when he tried to force the HPV vaccination on young girls. That was a decision filled with cronyism.

However, within the last 2 years, Perry seems to be singing a new tune and listening to the voters. Despite his claims otherwise, I believe he will be making a run for the White House in 2012. He's a lot like Bill Clinton with better morals. He'll at least listen when the voters speak and that would be better than Obama. However, he's not my first choice, nor even my second, third or fourth, but I'd support him if he won the nomination.

As to the budget deficit, there's really not a deficit. We have a balanced budget, but there is a projected budget deficit. So things will have to be cut in order to balance the budget and keep us in the black. I'm okay with that...Personally, I think if we rounded up every illegal resident in Texas and sent them to Wyoming, Canada or even Montana, we'd be in the black immediately. The drain that illegals place on our school systems, medical system, and judicial system is astronomical. It's amazing Texas has been able to do so well while supporting those that live here illegally. If Perry does not take real action to curb this issue, and make some progress in doing it, he will never make it to the White House.

No way in the world he even makes a run at the WH. The last person to get elected would be a perceived Texas boy in the wake of Bush2.

He's smoother than Bush and if the rest of the nation continues to tank while Texas prospers, he's got a real chance...He'd be a one-term President, most likely, but he could pull it off...Besides, Bush wasn't a native Texan.

One thing you have to remember, Texsun, people look at their pocketbook when they vote. Carter had people hurting, we got Reagan. Reagan gave us a lot of prosperity and we got George H.W. Bush. Bush raised taxes and we got Clinton. We had a conservative Congress that kept Clinton in check and he got a second term. Then the dot com bubble burst and we got George W. Bush. After Katrina and Rita 'caused' the gas prices to rise, and the economy collapsed, people were afraid McCain would continue Bush's policies and we'd really be in trouble...They had no idea what they were in store for.

Like I said, if Texas continues to survive and prosper, Perry has a real shot.

With what's going on in Mexico, he might need to rethink his approach with the federal government. Once that spills over, and it will, things are going to get rough in S Texas. I heard a lady on the radio this morning who was visiting family in central Mexico a few weeks back, they told her the gangs were accompanied by arab men.. and everyone went inside at dark. Scary situation.

I think he has been pretty good, considering what is happening in the rest of the country. But, at the rate it's going, the drag from DC will catch up to us.

By law, there isn't a whole lot he can do with the border, but there is going to have to be some changes made.. and the federal government is not going to help on the border issue.

You underestimate the mentality of the liberal voter. Lesson learned with the Bamster. All the liberal media has to do is show Perry in a cowboy hat and the entire left wing will see him as the next reincarnation of W.

The reason why pokerj2 just learned how to read is because "we don't need no education" in Texas. We certainly don't have to fund it. The budget way less important than Perry's agenda items.
