If you will, will you put what school you went to, and where you work at currently?

I have looked into that! My real passion is becoming a warden but the pay is just so low.

I have an honorary degree in Hog Management obtained from empirical study more so than theory. Does that count?

I had thought about it long and hard. I ended up getting my degree in Criminal Justice, which I'm still not using.
I'd love to find a job that I can use my degree, but I still haven't come across one yet.

Two of my best friends, and an ex-girlfriend are all Wildlife Majors from Texas State. One has a great job in Austin, two do not. Tough to find work for them.

I believe that its feast or fammon for wildlife degrees, I thought about it but from what I see you have to do some time as a state or federal agency to get your training in before you can do anything big in the private sector.
I have a degree in Agriculture with a Minor in marketing and I am currently working in the Commercial excavation industry and and help mange one of the owners 4,000acre ranch and the 300+ acres of water on it.
So you never know where you can and will end up and you should try to vary your skills and education; for example why not get a wildlife degree with land managment minor....
Then you have an open option to be a wildlife and ranch managment consultant that could supplement your income while working at an agency

Graduated from Tech in Dec. 2000. Worked for a large water district for the last 8 years or so. The wildlife jobs I interviewed for out of college were super competetive. PHD grads were interviewing for the entry level jobs I interviewed for. My degree helped me get to where I am now but the only wildlife I am managing now is what lives on the small place I own and the other places I hunt.
I really really wish I would have had a clue in college and got a degree in Engineering. I do a lot of that now anyways.
I had a chance to work for a ranch for about $1200/month and a small house out of college. That was not going to cut it with a wife and son so I had to look elsewhere.
I am really glad I have the degree and I did it all on my own but man I really wish I would have chosen a field with more jobs.

I graduated with a CJ degree, but the field I am limited to makes it unrealistic for me to switch careers. I work for a municipal government, work from 7AM-6PM Monday-Thursday and have every single holiday off. I also make more than local/state law enforcement . . . But, my God, I want to work law so bad, I just can't.

Graduated with WFMGT degree from TTU in 97. Got a job offer from TPWD as a fisheries biologist right out of school, they were offering 1500 a month GROSS. I did the math, I was making more than that part time so, I went back got my MBA and have been in IT ever since.
It is what I really wanted to do, but it would have been financial suicide. I enjoyed all of my classes and it was a great degree program but there are a lot of sacrifices that have to be made if you go that route. I am sure there are some great things that could open up over time. What really opened my eyes was when I interviewed, the guy that was in before me had a MS in WFMGT from TAMU, that was the handwriting on the wall.

I have a B.S. In wildlife and fishery sciences (biodiversity and conservation tract) from TAMU.
I have a M.S. Degree in environmental science degree with a GIS minor from SFASU.
I now work for the U.S. Government.
Why do you ask?

I'm just wondering is all. There just seems to be so many know it alls here on the forum about ranch management, and I'm seein who has the majors to back it up actually, vs just blowin smoke.
I'm a Junior at Tarleton, and I have had 8 months worth of ranch management hands on. I got about 10 years worth of info though.

what does ranch management have to do with wildlife management.
I have a degree in Agriculture with minor in ranch and range management. It had nothing to do with wildlife and everything to do with growing grass and cattle.

With a Wildlife Degree you can enjoy work and make a lot of money if.... you stay single the rest of your life and work in Alaska... In any career, where do you want to be in 10 years, want a spouse and family and where and what type of retirement do you want? I started in wildlife science in 1964 at Tarleton. In 2 yrs transferred to TAMU. Found out very few jobs, permanent or summer ones. So switched to a new Parks and Recreation Dept. So had a nice and fun career with Corps of Engineers in Texas and New Mexico. Knew I would get (inherit) good hunting land in Texas so ended up here. New Mexico had good hunting and fishing. Plan ahead.
Remember you can marry more money in 5 minutes than you can make in a lifetime.

Natural Resource Management with focus in conservation ecology at TTU. I do research in the biology department though and intend to get my Ph.D. and teach NRM here or somewhere else in Texas. Probably manage ranches on the side if it is profitable.
