Saw this blind in a magazine a couple months ago (Wildfowl I think)

I priced the materials out at Home Depot and it was around $60 for just the frame.

At a real lumber yard it was around $30.

Built out of 1 1/2 pvc with a couple pieces of 2" that the lids swing on.

Only took about an hour and a half to build (not counting paint). Will use fast grass for concealment.

It's really not a cheaper alternative to a layout once you factor everything in, but a layout won't work where I hunt and this will.

I've made a half dozen or so PVC blinds over the years. My material costs were $zero. That's because I owned a wholesale plumbing & piping supply house! smile

Of all the designs I've seen and made ... your's is the best. Congrats, very nice job.

Thanks Cappy, not my design though, I copied a picture in a magazine.

I'm going to make a similar one with a steel frame. It will be for two or three hunters and it will be on skids so I can drag it around with an atv.

Going to build it out of steel because it will cost me nothing, already have stacks of pipe and scrap, and I'm a better welder than plumber. I will still use pvc for the flaps.

On your steel blind make holes you can pop through insted of a flap. We did it on my pit and like it so much better.

PS

Your pens look like my place

do you have any pictures of the top of you blind? I've always been a "stand next to a tree" guy, and this will be my first year building or using a blind. Did you just leave an open hole for each hunter?

I guess your place is a mud hole too grin

My place is not very big, but several years ago I set it up to pre condition my calves. Now that I'm out of the business it's just home to a few retired roping horses and one 8 year old bottle calf that my wife won't let me sell.

First time in my life that are rocky pens are a mud pit. I guess even Limestone turns to mud after enough rain.

Anyway on the pit we made a hinged top but found by time you droped it the ducks were getting a fair amount of gone by time you were ready to shoot. So I cut holes in the bull panel that we had welded on there and bought some of those pit covers they sell out of Cabelas and Macks. Now we just pop through it, and those ducks are dead before God knows about it..

That was the reason I went with a shooter holes with my bind vs a flap door.

This is the only one I have with one door closed so you can see. On the right is one of the pop through holes. Its from Cabelas or Macs I dont remember but they both sell em. Its made out of plastic like they make brooms out of.
Hope this helps

Thanks Jeff, I see what you are talking about on the lid.

The flaps on this blind open up by themselves with the help of a bungee cord when you start to stand up. You don't have to open them up, just stand up and start smokin quack.

To heck with doors. I prefer to just stand there with my gun in their faces deciding when to shoot and know that they can't see me. They don't have a chance to spook lol.

it's a cool blind nonetheless. I've thought about making one just never got around to it.

I was planning on using grass mats to conceal this blind, but that stuff is expensive. $50 to cover the blind.

I found some half price on Rogers site but the shipping makes it almost as expensive.

Any ideas on what to cover it with?

I guess I will go with chicken wire with grass and brush zip tied to the wire.

Like you said, I'd go with light wire and grass it. You could also use burlap.

pretty cool! I did one on my 18' Xpress a few years back...worked will well and went up easy with practice. I switched to 3/4" EMT last year.

What i'd do:
Find someone with palmettos, or just keep an eye out in the woods for some. Zip tie a good bottom layer of palmettos, then go out to your spot or something similar and cut some brush to put in a couple spots on top of the palmetto. Those things last forever.

palmettos?

I ended up using switch cane to cover it.

Hayraker,

Thanks for posting this blind! Copied your design but made it about 5 feet wide so I could fit two hunters. It was light enough to take it out to my spot in my canoe.

The only problems I've had are that 1) its a little short and 2)The legs are weak where they connect to the top part of the frame. If I were to do it again I would put a cross bar between the legs on the sides.

Thanks again, killed several out of it already this year.

Here are a few pics, camo'd it with Avery Real Grass.

Made it a little wider for a couple guys

Stands in water and is semi-permanent, made 3' legs but still a little short

Can ya see it? I hope the ducks don't!

that looks really good!

I broke the legs on mine before I ever hunted out of it.

I still haven't used it. I'm saving it for later season when my other cover is thin.

Hayraker, this is what we do on our blinds. We get hog wire/field fence that you can get pretty cheap at a hardware store. Its the fencing that has about 4 inch gaps. We then cut tall grass from the area that we hunt and weave it into the wire. Weaving the grass looks a lot better than zip tying it to the wire. Give it a try.

I love that PVC blind by the way. Great job.

You think one could be made thats about 10' long? Or would there be support issues in the middle?
