I have never been on a quail hunt, and I would like to take my son, and a few others out on a hunt. Do not have a dog for quail, so looking for sugestions on where and who to hunt with.

I'm about 15 miles away. You can come over with your son and watch my dogs work pen raised quail. You can run out to Columbus and buy some after quail season opens. We can then shoot them. I'm headed out for a field trial tomorrow.

Can't beat Bill's offer.

An alternative may be to drive to Top Flight in Columbus and get Leon to take you and your son on a pen raised hunt. It's probably the closest thing to you.

Also, I need to get my dog on some birds before the season so I'd be willing to meet you at Top Flight and let you and your son hunt over my dog as long as you guys don't shoot us or each other. You buy the birds you want, my dog will find them for you, that would save you the additional cost of having Leon guide you.

That's what is so great about this forum. This offer will save you the cost of a guide. It's a win/win for both of you. I've met GSP. He's a great guy.

My son is 10. Appreciate the offers guys, I have never been quail hunting but have been dove hunting for 10 years. So I am newbie to quail hunting. Actually have another buddy and his son we are also trying to find somewhere we can hunt. Heck I would trade a day on the water bass fishing if anyone would be interested in that.

So where are some good places to hunt Quail? I Don't mind driving.

Thx

Wild quail guided hunts are hard to find, and expensive. You're talking about up to $4,000 per day. Here's one;

Quite a few at $400 to $800.

http://www.kansasquailhunts.com/__rates.html

http://www.selmanranch.com/pricing.htm.html

I've hunted both and they have great cover and most years good bird numbers.

If you have someone with dogs $200 to $300 a day. But free is always better cheers

Bring your son out to the NSTRA trial on 12/4, if you want him to see what it's like. It's just north of the runway of the new airport. You can go out with GSP and shoot the leftover birds, after the trial.

When the last brace finishes everyone heads into the bird fields. No sign up.

Anyone else going? Lets all round up and meet together. This should be fun! smile

We could have used some non members to help clean the fields at our Giddings trial last Saturday afternoon. The first brace Sunday had an unfair advantage. They only put out 6 birds in the first brace, and 5 birds after that. The first brace on Sunday scored 7 and 6 birds. The two dogs took first and second place. That's what they talk about when they talk about the luck of the draw.

One guy took a pup out after the Priddy trial, and killed 7 birds. Several people found multiple birds. That's one place they encourage skillet shots. We want the fields birdless before the start of the trial on Sunday morning.
