In other posts or pms someone asked I post more pictures of my wooden boat project, and I had another request on my kayak rigging. Plus I picked up a new project today. So I am throwing some combined pics together in a post. My Wooden Boat. This was given to me and in sad shape when I got it. I was calling it a duck punt in that I have no idea what it should be called. Though thinking about it, it really could be called a decked pirogue. It has a flat bottom and sloped sides. The hull was gel coat over wood, I made several repairs to cracks and chips, and calked the edge with marine adhesive. Sprayed a thin coat of bedliner over that and painted. Deck was stripped and sanded, brass nails set and holes filled with adhesive, then several coats of stain. Cross brace removed, but floor secured to deck to give some strength. This gives me room for a full layout blind or layout chair inside the boat. 5200 Marine adhesive on all seams to strengthen and waterproof the joints. The floor will receive a thick coat of brush-on bedliner paint. I will be installing a new cross brace or thwart farther back, but leaving room behind the brace for the dog. Inuit chair can be folded and stored under back deck when in hunting mode. I will need to dissasemble the chair and rebuild it one inch shorter to fit under the deck. I want it to last, so it needs a little refurbishment anyway. I might ad some kind of way to secure grass mats to the deck. I could easily turn it into a grass island. It rides low, has a keel, tracks fairly well, and is very stable. I tried to turn it over while sitting in it when I did a test run. I was unable to turn it over. I litteraly would have to stand up, grab the side, and fall back to make it tump. As a joke, perhaps I should put mounts for my 10 GA as a punt gun to make it look like an old market boat. The simple sail would be doable too.

The Kayak, Its an Old Town Predator K140. It is no longer made. It is a solo boat based on the Twin Otter. The Twin Otter is still made. Perhaps the seat system could be adapted if one wanted to turn one into a solo boat. Stern running light is bright led and mounts to one of the scotty rod holder bases. I need a longer pole with a bright flag for daytime use while fishing. This boat came with some bells and whistles, but I added a few too. I added the deck cord and the eyelet on the front. I added the cleat which has proven to be very handy for stringers, minnow buckets, tying to docks and stumps, and for drift sock attachment. The anchor trolly is original, but I added a second cinch for the other side of cord to make it more secure to not move when anchored. It has mud and leaves on it in the pic. The boat goes through hell. I use a portable Eagle fish finder when fishing. Transducer is permanent with a plug spliced in the cable. Deck cord added by me on back. I added the deck plate mostly as a way to run a chain though the kayak so I can lock it to things. I had two theft attempts off my truck in Galveston, but they found I had a chain run through the deck plate and locked around my truck's frame. I have the lid of course and attached to the bottom of the lid is a peanut butter jar lid. I can place me keys and billfold in the peanut butter jar when on the water. No worry of loss or of them getting wet. I mounted 6 scotty rod holder bases all the way around the boat. I can move rod holders to drift or troll any direction or store extra rods. Pirogue My next project. Always wanted one of these. Picked up from a forum member today. I will add wood gunwales to the edges to make it easier to pick up and move around. Replace a missing handle not shown, Repair the fiberglass and gel coat where needed, and reinforce the bow and stern drag points. It is very light and should be a lot of fun to use in the right conditions.

A kid and dog, might be pushing it. There is only one seat. If the dog likes to move around it gets tippy though stable, but a kid might over correct when it gets tippy especially if not in a fixed seat. I would say look at the twin otter which is the same hull but with two seats, but it only comes in a bright orange yellow I see. When my son has gone on the water with me, I take the 17 ft canoe.

Ok, that is what I thought. They just still have the old page on the K140 and I found it in my web search for old town. That new model would not work IMO. No place for decoys or dog at all.
I think the old camo K140 failed to be marketable only because none of the dealers would carry them. When I bought mine I had to have it trucked from a shop in the North Eastern US. No one local would special order it for me.

Man have you thought about breaking down and getting a boat? I have a canoe and will be replacing my stolen kayak soon, but as soon as I can get a boat I am.

i have the same pirouge that you have in that pic. but i added fiberglass sucker rod under the rolled edge. made the boat alot stiffer and didnt add much weight. i learned that if you take kids in a pirouge make them lay down in the floor. most of the time my 9yr old falls asleep...its much less tippy that way. i also made a burlap "skirt" to go over the top of the pirouge. it works kinda like a fitted bed sheet and just streches over the top. makes it real easy to brush up and hide in. btw in a pirouge its not if you tip aver its when. im so jealous of the duck punt!!!

So we may be looking for a small yak for the kid Hey TB Academy Sports and Dick's both have a JR. kayak for less than $200. They will just need a couple coats of Krylon Fusion paint that bonds to plastics.

I've actually got a pirouge that I found in a dumpster that I am currently working on restoring. It is an Electric Feather made by Fin and Feather, probably back in the 80's. I still have alot of fiberglass work to do, but it's going to look like the following when finished.

Cool Pics! I picked up my first kayak this year and can't wait for the season to begin. I am going back to LA to hunt Catahoula Lake. 45,000 acres of flooded grasses usually about 2 feet deep. It's gonna be they ask me no mo ??'s this year if it works as well as I think it should.
Live to hunt, hunt to live.

I like that I'll snap some pictures of the current state and you'll change your mind. The one I've got has alot of small holes in it that someone had tried to do some glass work on. I've gotta figure out how to grind all that crap out and then learn how to glass myself.
