I don't know too much about them.... But I have some ammo lying around, about 20 rounds. I purchased 30.06 ammo in bulk and recieved these guys.

sorry i cant tell you much about the gun but it is the same caliber that col. patterson used in his safaris at the end of the 19th century. It was his go to round for hunting lions and other large game. He spoke about the gun quite a bit in the maneaters of tsavo. i think that is what the name of the book was.

I appreciate the information. I really like shooting the gun. I have killed several deer with it. When I want to use open sites instead of a scope I usaually carry this gun. It shoots as well as a new gun.

I have one that has been sporterized but I'm like you I don't know a thing about my rifle either.

There should be a date stamped on the gun. Check on the right side of the butt stock socket. Lithgow was a small arms factory in Australia. They made SMLE Mk III rifles from 1913-1918 and 1922-1941. A revised Mk III* rifle was made there from 1941-1953. Non-sporterized versions can be had for about $300 (obviously depending on the year, factory, country, etc...) so a sporterized version would sell for less since it loses most of its collector value since it is not original. That is a blanket statement though, and individual guns could differ dramatically. Here is some information: http://www.smellysmleshooters.net/ http://www.surplusrifle.com/smle/index.aspAnd here is a forum dedicated to Enfields. If these people can't tell you everything you need to know, no one can. http://www.surplusrifleforum.com/viewforum.php?f=27&sid=6a38f0094acb26275c2050943c932cc8
