IMO you will be way ahead in quality optics by going with BOBO's Burris. I have had one on my .270 Weatherby Magnum, Model 70 for 23 years and it is still one of the best set ups I have had and still have. Yes 3-9 is enough. If you live close to Garland I will meet you at thee range help you mount it, bore sight it and sight in.
BOBO that is a very kind and generous thing you are doing.

that's the holiday spirit BOBO - awesome!
Frosty, that's going to be a nice set up for sure. I would also look at the 270 in that rifle.

Frosty not sure if this is said or not, nothing wrong with 3006 but I would seriously get a 308 or 270 first for pretty much the same affects as what you are looking at. Just a little more pleasant to shoot. If you already got it , congrats. I have pretty much the same gun in a bdl. Cant go wrong

Thanks Guys your helping out a nice young man need to put some weight on him for football but a nice young man. I'm going to have to try to get him a buck now - he is over at our house tonight and was sitting in a bow blind with my son tonight. might have to plan a hunt after Christmas for him if he keeps making the grades at school.
All of you have the right spirit it's all about our youth.
I bought my son a Simmons scope to go on a 284. He doesn't gun hunt much he has turned to bow hunting but out grew his 243. It was cheap the only reason. I have 3 Burris scopes all high power started with the 3x9 but grew to the 32 power. Very nice scopes thanks BoBo!
I'll try to get him that buck if he still wants it my son has been lobbying for him as well.

If your purpose is hunting deer, then you want the most light you can get with the widest field of view. I have used a straight 4x scope for deer hunting for those reasons and more. It has less moving parts so it is rugged - zero has never moved whether it's bumped along in a truck or checked as baggage on a flight (or both).
This is a little unconventional, but you might also look at a magnum pistol fixed power scope. The eye relief is tremendous, which helps you pick up your target very quickly because you aren't jacking around trying to get lined up in the heat of the moment.
She was only a whiskey maker, but he loved her still.
