A rural Alaska school district, off the road net, has a job opening for a certified kindergarten or first grade teacher. Excellent moose and grizzly hunting. Waterfowl variety can't be matched. Must be hardy as outside recess cuts off at 20 below zero. If interested, respond and we'll communicate more directly.

Great opportunity for someone. A Teacher that worked with my wife up here in the hills did just that for 5 years up in Nome Alaska, he was always sending pictures of himself hiking and fishing. God's Country forsure!

You nailed it. It is in Nome where my daughter is the principal of the school where she started pre-school and doubtlessly knows your wife's co-worker.

That would be a fun job to do after retiring. Or at least something to consider for the right person.

For the sake of conversation, what are the requirements to be a teacher in Alaska?

Elementary certification in any state is typically accepted with finger-printing for background check purposes. Generally, this leads to a two-year, initial certificate, giving the recipient time to meet the Alaska History and Alaska Culture class completion requirements. Nome Public Schools currently offers a Culture Camp annually, all-expense paid, to meet the culture class requirement. More information can be found at https://education.alaska.gov/teachercertification

If I had only gotten my teaching certificate, We would get pictures from Mr. Black who was the prior teacher and the fishing and wildlife is incredible up there.
