Be careful. Went to the lease last week with the kids. Did some exploring safely and my 10 year old daughter spotted a few snakes on a hill which I expected. We were safe. Coords were provided and Black Ops went in this week. My boy almost stepped on one by here last year and me to after filling a feeder. This was one den. We got a ton more I think. Killed two in camp itself just walking around in Sept. 12 rattlers and copperheads trying to cook dinner so still less than 5% of the time...

Snakes don't use calendars and can be out any time it is warm. I have seen copperheads at my place every month of the year.

I Feed Indian Corn. The deer love it and all the colors make them stay at the feeder longer.

I see rattlers 12 months of the year but I usually know where they are Nov to Mar. On a south slope facing rock. These were from a single rock. Luckily only had copperheads 2 years ago in the summer. They came out of nowhere in camp.

In Texas the snake time of year is 24/7/365....

I won’t kill them.....I like snakes much more than rats and mice....

Besides, if you leave them alone they will leave you alone....

Venomous around house, barn, shop and pond get killed, especially a-hole cottonmouths. Non-venomous get a pass.

Cottonmouths are the yellow jackets of the snake world. They should be eradicated with utmost vigor.

Why all the different opinion on the cottonmouth ? I've seen very little of them
I would put the copperhead more of the pest due to the numbers and tight locations they get around Patios and kid areas

I'm a firm believer that the only good snake is a dead snake. Even the "harmless" snakes give me the heebeejeebees! I won't go after them but if they look at me wrong, they die.

Cottonmouths are super aggressive. I once beat one senseless with a boat paddle on Choke Canyon while he was trying to get in our boat. He went into a death roll on top of the water. After a few minutes of recovery he headed right back toward the boat. Pulled up anchor and got the H out of there. It was this time of year and we were fishing the shallows for catfish. I will never forget it.

Lying is lying. Don't bitch about one doing it and condone another. That's called hypocrisy.
