So I finally got my reloading stuff un boxed from moving about 6 months ago. Having some weird things going on. Best loads I have found with 178 ELDX 20 thousands off rifling IMR 4831, found nodes at 69.6 and 70.7. decent groups but they string horizontally. All other undesired loads were hitting in different places but best groupings went horizontal. Shot at the range so little wind drift possible, shot off bench with bipod and sand sock, barrel floated, did not let barrel over heat, all loads were closely watched with .01 to .02 grain powder spread, all verified same length COAL to Ogive, do not own chronograph. Guesses?

How's the trigger? Are you fighting it?

Bedded action? Free-floated barrel?

Trigger 1.5 pounds, maybe even too light, very smooth. Action bedded and barrel floated.

Sometimes I'll do that shooting off a bench if I haven't set myself behind the rifle correctly and I'm fighting the rear bag without realizing it.

Just thought of something, bought another by-pod 3 weeks ago so I did not have to swap between two guns at the range while one is cooling. It attached directly to picatinny rail instead to the gun sling device. It doesn't swivel. Even though the stock is solid, wonder if I was torquing something when shooting?

Why the hell did you buy a non-swivel bipod? juggle

Yes, that is possible.

Easy rule is vertical is powder and horizontal is seating. It is not a steadfast rule but about 90% of the time it will hold true.

I bet if you shoot that load prone on a rear bag, that group is going to tighten right up. I have a 1/4 moa load that does that when I switch between a Harris and Atlas bipod and shoot from the bench.

Can't argue that.

Horizontal can also be trigger control/ follow through as well.
