1/2 cup flour
1 teaspoon seasoned salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
2 lbs stew beef, cubed
Olive oil
1 onion, chopped
2-3 cloves garlic, minced
3 cups beef broth
2 tablespoons sherry wine
Worcestershire sauce
Balsamic vinegar
1 bay leaf
1 teaspoon paprika
4-5 Yukon gold potatoes
3-4 carrots peeled and sliced
4-5 stalks of celery, sliced

Mix the flour, seasoned salt and pepper in a bag or bowl and toss the beef in the seasoned flour until evenly coated. Heat the olive oil in a cast iron skillet and brown the beef over medium low heat. Remove the beef when browned, and saute the onion and garlic until softened. Add the beef back in and cook a bit longer. Transfer beef/onion/garlic to crock pot. Turn up the heat in the skillet and use the sherry wine and about a cup of beef broth to deglaze the skillet. Use a wooden spoon to scrape up any bits of beef and onion/garlic and reduce the liquid in the skillet, scraping and stirring while it simmers. Then add that liquid to the crock pot. Add the remaining beef broth and cover the beef and onion/garlic. Add the bay leaf and teaspoon of paprika. Add Worcestershire sauce and balsamic vinegar to your liking. I would guess I add 3 or 4 tablespoons of each but I don't measure. Stir well to combine, then set the crock pot on low and cook for several hours until the beef starts to get tender. I wash and chop all the veggies while the beef is cooking and keep them in a bowl in the fridge until ready. Once the beef has gotten pretty tender, add the veggies and cook for 2-3 more hours until the potatoes and carrots are soft.

I make this stew all the time and everyone always loves it. I also usually cook it in my Aroma Rice cooker on the "Slow cooker" setting but have done it in a crock pot several times as well. The rice cooker is just a bit faster.

You can also save time by using canned carrots.

MacDaddy,

I made your stew recipe last night, it was fantastic. I used venison hind quarter. My people ate it up, even the wife.

Thanks for posting the recipe. It has been printed and saved. I also printed and saved one of Oxner's recipes for venison roast last year and have been making great roasts using the front shoulder and ham.

MacDaddy21's recipe sounds awesome and I am going to give it a try..... Here is my go to "easy moose stew" recipe that quick and painless

Set your large crockpot to high and combine......

2 lbs Moose stew meat (or venison)
1 large white onion chopped
5 tbsp. crushed garlic
2 tbsp. black pepper
1 3.25oz menudo spice mix
2 12oz cans tomato sauce
2 12oz cans green beans (drained)
2 12oz cans corn (drained)
1 lbs fresh carrots pealed and sliced
4-5 stalks of fresh celery sliced
2 pints dark beer (Zeigen bock/shiner)

Allow to cook on high for 1 hour then add 4 medium sized potatoes(peeled and chopped), reduce heat to low and let it cook for 3-4 hours.

Did you brown the meat?
