I'm looking at map chips for my Alpha and I'm soliciting some opinions. Does anyone use either and is there a preference? Any major glitches or downfalls to either? OnX is more expensive but I use the app on my phone and I'm generally pleased.

I use ONX on my phone app. Very happy with it. $30 year is chicken feed in the grand scheme of things
Only thing I don't like about it is you need cell reception. If you don't have it you have to save the map beforehand. I hunt multiple states and out of cell often

I have OnX on my phone as well and am very pleased. I'm wondering if it's the way to go on the Garmin or if Hunt View is any better or more functional.

I am not familiar with hunt view so can't help there. My advice. If you hunt multiple states, and or are in cell service the phone app works. If you hunt one state and out of cell service get the garmin chip
Where do you hunt
I assume your hunting public

onx app now is the best. Due to overlay features. Hunting/hunted four states this year. I just cache the game unit I’m hunting in and do worry about cell service.
I also have Garmin Montana, it stays in truck now. But you can save satellite imagery and marked maps in it if you want, in addition to chips

If you are on a budget you can do the following: 1.) Download offline maps using Google Maps. Make sure that you have 'Terrain mode' selected before you download. For backup, also get maps.me. It has some details that I sometimes find missing on Google maps. 2.) If you want do research regarding who land ownership, you can view the parcel maps at this website. http://hunting-app.toposports.com/land-o...84048/-96.76323

Based on this I would question the accuracy of these maps.

OnX is what I use. Works good for tracking animals and showing land ownership is really cool. I actually use it at work for finding bounders and ownership.

So it shouldn't be too hard to verify accuracy by comparing against the official assessor website.

No, I like to keep a low profile, I have enough people calling me about hunting there. Don't really worry about trespassing because there are federal game wardens on the refuge on one side of me and a state warden lives next door. The land is posted so it is pretty difficult to make a mistake. The state warden has been known to make house calls on people who were observed trespassing.
