I was looking at their 600# feeder outside Acadeny Sports and it looks pretty good so I was wondering if anybody on here has used one. Is it good or is it a piece of junk? I have a 300# feeder right now and want a larger capacity feeder so I don’t have to fill it back up as often. I like that I can just use a small step stool ladder to fill it. I would definitely seal the area where the two sides of the hopper meet and if possible, use a 12v battery and solar panel with it. It says it’s a 6v feeder but it doesn’t come with the battery or solar panel. So I was thinking about using a 12v battery, 12v solar panel, my extra The Timer feeder timer and Eliminator spinner plate with it. Has anybody here used one with a 12v set up. Thanks for the help everybody!

I am 5’ 5” tall so the top of the hopper isn’t that high and will be easy to fill. I will probably put some weather stripping on the inside of the top to help keep moisture out.

I would get rid of all those bolts and do some welding make the skid stronger like the design with timer and battery on the side

I own one and have had it in the field since August. I can't really complain about it as it has done fine. I did have to caulk the insides and lid because I could see light on some seams. I wish it was a 12v system also. I have The Timer. I don't think that it would fit underneath with the critter guard in place. I put mine together by myself. I wouldn't do that again. It's a 2 person job.

Bow, we used to buy and then have to replace the cheaper made store bought feeders. I would highly recommend something like the Alamo feeder. Piece of mind to me is priceless. Won't go back to the store bought. You definitely pay more and trust me I initially thought no way am I paying that much, but the difference in quality of materials is you get what you pay for. 16 gauge steel and 14 gauge tubing all welded versus thin sheet metal that is held together by nuts and bolts.

I would only use that inside a feed pen. HuskerB is right.... looks like a sounder of hogs would damage that beyond repiar after a couple years.

Thanks llbts1. I think I am going to pass on it and go with one from Texas Direct Hunting Supply or some other company after all your feedback on the Academy Sports feeder. I have a Foreverlast 300# spin feeder right now and it’s pretty good and hasn’t given me any problems so far. They are made here in Texas. I also have their 100# Tree Hugger spin feeder that I put up for hogs and they have a promotion once a year where they give you that with The Timer feeder timer for $100 which is a great deal. But I definitely need a larger capacity feeder for the amount of corn that I am throwing out since we have a lot more deer coming in to our feeders now. Thanks for giving me feedback on the feeder.

Thanks KK30RAR. I am going to pass on it because it doesn’t sound like it’s well built. I actually know how to weld and my buddy does too and has the equipment but I definitely want one that is good to go right out of the box. We have been thinking about making some tripod winch set ups for protein feeders and we have to make some brackets after the season so we can build a tower for his blind. I have my blind on a 5ft tower and he’s at ground level right now. Thanks again.

Thanks HuskerB. I hear you about buying once. I just need a bigger capacity feeder for the property and if it’s an easy fill then that is a major plus. Price is definitely not going to be a problem because I have some insurance money coming for all the medical bills I had to pay out of pocket after some moron destroyed my suv and lower back while I was waiting at a set of lights on the i-10 service road. They were going 70-75mph and texting while driving. 4 years in the Marine Corps without a scratch on me and then some idiot wrecks my back while I am minding my own business. Go figure! I have left the going cheap way in the past after having things fail and break down before the warranty expires. The whole feeder thing is new to me down here since we couldn’t use feeders where I used to hunt. We could only bait for bear with barrels up north. I took one look at the feeders down here and said that I would never ever buy one of those plastic hopper feeders. Critters could chew right through them like they do to trash barrels lol. I don’t know why the stores sell them down here. Thanks again.
