SBE II vs A400 XTreme - 3" shells - recoil #6956999 11/12/17 07:00 PM

Looking for some real feedback on recoil.

Currently hunting with an SBE II (last 3-4 years). I am having some shoulder issues that aren't going to improve for a while.

Contemplating switching over to a A400 Xtreme (with the KO) if need be to try and reduce wear and tear on my shoulder.

I've shot an A400 but that's with 2-3/4 shells, not 3" duck loads.

Anyone want to chime in on true recoil difference between the inertia guns and the gas guns when using 3" shells?

Thx

Went from a Winchester SX2 to a Benelli SBE2. The SX2 had noticeably less felt recoil in my opinion. The gas gun was much more of a “push” while the inertia gun had a much “sharper” recoil. Would go back to Winchester in a second if they would build a southpaw model.

Both were used for upland bird hunting and several cases of 3” duck loads per year.

I have both a SBEII and an A300 without the kick off system. The A300 has noticeably less recoil than the SBE. Hard to say how much less maybe 15%.

Was this any of this with 3" shells?

I love the ruggedness of the SBEII and the way it points when i put it on target. Just don't think I can keep up with the 12 gauge unless there is a noticeable difference going to a gas gun system.

I'd say you will feel a significant reduction in felt recoil if you went with a Beretta over a SBE. I don't know many people that would argue with that...

Also, do some work patterning some different 2 3/4" loads. You might be surprised how effective they are. I have killed lots of Canada geese with 2 3/4" #6

I have an original SBE and the recoil difference between it and an A400 is about like a 12ga with and 20ga. Doesn't seem to matter if you shoot 2 3/4 dove or 3 inch turkey loads there is that much difference to me.

Yes, both 2-3/4 and 3".

Thanks all. Good feedback. Just wish the A400 shouldered as nice as the SBEII.

Maybe someone will want to part with their A400 after duck season.

I shoot a benelli M1 super 90. Similar to the sbe, but only handles up to 3". I used to duck hunt often and the 3" mags were a concern being I'm 5'09" and 175. I had heard the inertia will have more felt recoil than gas, so I asked the guy behind the counter about it. He showed me a silver, mercury filled tube made by benelli as well that screws into the inside of the stock. It's about the size of a roll of quarters has baffles inside... ads almost a pound in weight to the stock, but i never noticed it being there. Recoil from the 3" hevishot mags is not bad at all. Dove loads are nothing. Might look into it as an option as it was under $100. Google benelli recoil reducer, then find for your specific model, and you should be set! up

Looks like it's only available if you don't have the comfortech stock that has the rubber chevrons in it.

I have the older Beretta Extrema, no kick off. I always thought it kicked worse with the lighter dove loads than the steel shot. I shot a friends Benelli Montefeltro and didn’t care for the recoil at all
