So, i have a dog that has separation anxiety. I have been planning on camping out at my lease this year to make the morning hunt a bit more bearable. My question is if i put him in my blind with me, will he bother the deer too much? He does tend to pant fairly loudly, but also usually will fall asleep on the ground while with me. When i have had him at other hunts, he never barked at a deer or hogs though i could tell the deer and one time a javelina thought something was off, but that could have just been me or the fact that my popup blind i was in was fairly new to the area. Do yall think domestic dog scent will throw off hunting? Thought i would at least pose the question to see what kinds of answers i will get. I would leave him in my tent, but i think he would tear a hole in it and escape and if i left him in my truck with the windows down i would hear his howling and crying all the way across the lease.

Take him with you. I wouldn't want to stress you and the dog out by leaving him.

I bet everyone has some sort of different experience with a dog in a blind, for us we never had an issue, except for the dog freaking out over a gunshot.

I've never had a problem. My old heeler went with me all the time. My current dog freaks at gun shots so I just leave him in the cabin or truck when its cool enough.

My pup goes with me all the time. He's usually the first to spot the deer before they even come in to view. He never barks or whines, and the deer haven't minded the smell yet. He even has his own chair.

My son played with a buddy's dog at hunting camp in Fredericksburg a couple years ago. That afternoon we were blown at constantly throughout the hunt, whereas I alone, in the morning, had no issues. My buddy had the same experience...the only thing we could attribute it to was the dog.

We take our little lap dog to the stand all the time. She's actually a pretty good deer spotter. Never had a problem.

Dog scent isn't any more scary to a deer than human scent. If they can smell the dog, they can smell you

Same exact issue here. New pup that has sep.anxiety. Gonna take her with me to the blind. Only thing is the gunshot. Don't want to ruin her hearing like I have mine.
Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it. Don't text and drive.

I hunt with my Wirehaired Pointing Griffon every time I hunt. Pop-ups, ground blinds, or just sitting in an open top jeep. Deer walk within feet of us and do not notice. As others have said; Your scent is more of an issue than the dogs. The panting is another story. I know if it is a hot day and/or he is excited, mine can put out some loud panting.

Is separation anxiety in dogs a real thing? Seriously!! What would your grandfather's say if you told him your dog had anxiety? If mine was still here I know what'd he'd say.....
I take my dog when I want him to go and it doesn't hurt anything because I hunt the wind.

Of course dogs have separation anxiety. It just got a new name since grampa. He would say ‘my dog misses me’.

What does the dog do when you go to work? Dare I ask about other activities where a dog at your side would not be appropriate?

If you can pull it off that would be awesome..why not. If I put my GSP in a blind that would get ugly. She'd try to run in there. I went to the lease last week end and left her home. Felt like I punched my best friend in the face when I closed our front door on her and told her bye.

Please don't take a dog in the blind with you if you have never shot a gun around him/her.
Break him/her in with a gun first.

I take him with me dove hunting all the time and he is fine around guns. The only time i would be taking him with me into the blind is when i stay out there over night. During the day he stays at my house and is fine, i just dont like the leaving him alone over night. Thanks for all yall's responses!!!

Preacher, if his obedience is good I wouldn't sweat it. If the deer can smell the dog they can smell you and the jig is up anyway.

Now I am firm believer in not changing up anything close to season opening, especially scent related. But to assume deer will automatically be driven away by dog scent, I have seen first hand that not be the case. At my place the neighbors dogs keep the hogs away and many a time right after the dogs chase away those nasty pigs, here come the deer, within moments.

My lab pup goes when I go. She just takes a nap. All the gun shot does it get her excited to go retrieve something.
