Are wearing out the wheat and oat fields around here. Sure glad I got mine in late and it's not up yet.

Farmer at my lease just drilled in the seed Saturday. Finished just as we got in stand.
Hope it comes up good before gunnseason. Probably won’t. But that’s ok, by mid November they will be all over it.

Rancher up the road called me yesterday and said he has them pretty bad, going to re-sow his wheat fields. When I looked at my field Sunday am, it looked good. Hopefully this cold weather will knock them out.

That's the risk you run planting early. I'm not sure if the odds of getting them are even at 50/50. Seems to me like it's closer to 75/25 that you'll get them with early planting.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

They are down here in my part of South Texas, the weather conditions are ideal for them. Saw them last week flushing ahead of me during my morning walk and then the notice appeared in our local paper. That article stated that 3 or more per square foot requires immediate treatment or it will be too late.
Still, haven't planted my plots but I have had them take food plots to bare earth.

They got my food plots last week. It was beautiful after 3 inches of slow rain. Now it's gone. Gonna have to start over. I've never had them before on my plots. I will heed everyone's warnings in the future

Gotta be bad down in S.Texas - my sister (she never seen them before) down in Harlingen reports TREES are being stripped of their foliage down there by these nasty critters . . .

Question: Our 6 acre field got hammered by army worms the last week or so. How long should we wait to replant? We didnt have the field sprayed the guy who does it said it would have been pointless at that point. So how long do we wait?

We didnt have the field sprayed the guy who does it said it would have been pointless at that point. So how long do we wait? I would just over seed via drill this week at 1/2 to 1/3 your original planting rate. They didn't eat it all to death. So some will rebound back. It's hard to say when next freeze will be but once nights get under 40 degrees they move south quickly

we had them bad back in the 50's, dad made a home made spreader, mixed bait with bran and kept them from eating the wheat fields.

I put in a small no till plot behind my house just to see how it would do and its growing well but just killed 3 army worms in my back yard. Walked the plot and didn't see anymore. Hopefully they don't eat it up.

I've been killing and prepping ground that was bahia for next year's native grass restoration. I haven't seen any armyworms until this guy landed on my windshield. He begged me to end the destruction and madness. I killed him with my windshield wiper.

I just planted about 30 pounds of rye at the house to cover some dirt work and had a great stand of it up until..... "Dad, I saw all of these worms in the new grass today." That was about 8:30 Monday night and Tuesday morning it was bare ground!!!

Yeah, that sucks. I planted 13.2 acres yesterday afternoon into the night because of our three-day rain forecast. I hope the armyworms are done in our area. Just seen the one on the windshield in the last week.

Well those little bastages got my field, thought about spreading some more seed on top and rolling them in but the weather does not look promising.

I just wish the suckers would eat Johnson grass! My tractor has been in the shop so mine will be late getting in. Maybe I'll miss them
