I hunt with Ruger Redhawk 6".44 open sights good to about 75yd using Hornady flex tip , S&W semi auto Sigma.40 open sights made clean kills out to 45 yds using rem golden saber. Thompson Contender 15" Barrel in 7-08 with 2X6 scope good to 200+ yards. S&W Highway Patrolman .357 with 158 JHP is my least favorite due to lack of knock down,I shot a deer dead through the heart and it ran over 100 yds before piling up.

I've been handgun hunting for years with Encore and Contender platforms. Fior deer I use 7-08 and 250 savage but this year I've got a 300 Win mag that shoots very well. I've got scopes on them so very accurate with proper rest.

I'm going to start tagging along my 45, but I really don't expect to see anything close enough to shoot. But who knows? I have been close enough to nail one before, but didn't have the pistol then.

For hunting purposes, I like Cor-Bon and Double Tap ammo. Have shot a bunch of both in .44 Mag (240 grain HP) and quite a few Cor-Bon in .300 Whisper (150 grain SP). Every deer I've shot with either gave up quickly, with most never taking a step.

T/C Encore with 12" barrels on both calibers.

I've taken game with both my Blackhawk .357 mag. shooting 158 gr. JHP and 158 gr. SWC and my .44 mag. Super Blackhawk 240 gr. JHP. Had excellent results with both, open sights, especially the .357 on mountain lion, coyotes, impala (60 yds. in Africa). .44 mag. deer and prairie dogs. Know your trajectory!! Good luck. texas cowboy

Pay it forward - Kids are the future.

Rifles are similar to boats and young women...there's no end to how much money you can pour into them without making them any more useful.

Ruger NMBH 45 Colt. 250 grain at about 950 fps.
Uberti 45 Colt. Same load.
Deer, pigs and one lone coyote sneaking up on a fawn. His problems all got settled.

Dan Wesson 44 mag. Dropped him in his tracks. Works well on the piggys too.

In south Texas, I like to rattle in bucks and shoot them with my rifle. But, I do carry my .45 colt and if a mature buck gets within 20 yards of me, I will take a shot with my pistol provided the situation is ideal.
