Finished this one for an order yesterday. Made the blade from 1/4" thick 5160 spring steel. Overall length is 13"and the blade is 8" long. Scales are stabilized black walnut with stainless hardware. Blade was acid etched for a forced patina. Delivered it today and it's owner was happy with it so that always makes me happy as well.

If I ever make another like this one I'd use 3/16" 5160. It would reduce the weight and still be beefy enough to make a good chopper. The customer wanted the 1/4" so that's what he got.

That's what I do Mike on larger blades. I have some 1/4" 5160 I like to forge down to about that. It's one of my go to steels when I'm not using 52100 which is my all time favorite steel.
