My two sons got drawn for Richland Creek WMA Youth GDE for October 28-29. With it being a short hunt I was looking for any info that can help us. Should we take pop up blinds or just get out and stalk? We've stayed many times at Fisherman's Point but have never been to the WMA. It's our first draw hunt and will be my oldest son last time he can put in for youth hunts so we are going to try to make it a great one. Any info will be useful so thank you.

we were there on a youth anterless hunt the last year they had hunts before the big floods shut it down. we had unit 13 on the far south end and i can say we only saw 1 doe but probably 8-10 bucks and 3 of those id have shot anywhere in the country. if i had a compartment map i could pin point the exact spot we saw them crossing
it was a pipeline/creek intersection
we were sitting in a pop up but if we ever go back ill be off the ground

I've hunted Richland creek several times, all on the north end. I would say try to get a compartment with a pipeline on it. Put up a ground blind where you can see down each side. The deer will cross these pipelines and even feed down them. Trick is to set up where it will be close enough for a shot. To much underbrush for a spot and stalk IMO. You should see lots of deer. Be sure to take a Thermacell, you'll need it.

I've got a little place a few miles downs river. There has been plenty of rain this year and the underbrush is VERY thick. I second the pipeline ROW part. If you try to stalk, you will be lucky to be able to see 20 years. There is also a tremendous amount of deadfall in there.

We all need to practice Whoa more.
