We own/hunt on 60 acres and were thinking of starting protein feed after this season. We plan on approaching the surrounding neighbors but for the sake of discussion let's assume they all decline....Is 60 acres big enough to mess with? I know the neighbors will also reap the benefits but my thoughts are, at least the herd as a whole will improve. Thoughts?
Also, assuming this makes sense...what is the most cost effective way of doing this? Blocks, pellets, etc?

Also, assuming this makes sense...what is the most cost effective way of doing this? Blocks, pellets, etc? Not worth it from a management stand point IMO, but can be a great attractant as already stated. The most cost effective way is very dependent on your drive distance and the reasoning for the protein (management or attractant) If you drive an extreme distance as I do (7 hours one direction) you may want to consider a timed protein feeder to cut down on fill trips

Free choice is the best way to feed if you can afford to.

bucks seem to take over protein feeders. I think its a good idea as an attractant.

If you are asking cost effective then you better not start it. I tried free choice and when they started eating over $24 a day I quit. I don't sell half that in deer a year.
