The birds are skiddish. The few groups we saw wanted nothing to do with our spread, they didnt even circle or give us a second look.

We need the split to bring us new birds

Glad to know it's not just me. Only hunted one reservoir hard over the past two weeks but have scouted three others. Opening day was thick with GWT but they cleared out after the first cold front. Now we're getting some teal and wood ducks going before and at LST; what few mallards and gaddies we see are high fliers, will only circle a couple times, or (more often than not) pay no attention at all.

Now I feel better it's not just me. Saw a few small groups this morning and they didn't even give me a look.

There have been some serious high flyers the last week.

Saw only 6 today. Got 4 to decoy- 2 Gaddis were shot at pond nearby and were packing their bags outa here. You have to get real creative- leave mallard call at home- whistle deadly. Change up spread size, species motion etc.

I am getting 80% birds to decoy. Cover is imperative.

We aren't quite NTX but we had lots of birds for the opener and then it just died. It's been slim pickins the last week and a half.

My brother and I are going back out tomorrow. The plan is to only bring a handful of decoys, I think the big spread is scaring them off. Keep it simple and hope to whack em n stack em

We had a few more birds come in over the last few days but not enough to make a good hunt. We killed 4 this morning. Sure hope we see an influx in the coming week and after the split.

Only had GWT come in close enough to shoot at. Motion seemed to help today to get the couple flocks to at least glance at us, but just not seeing or hearing enough birds to tell what is working and what isn't.

Its been slow for me in NTX. But I have not scouted that hard this season or made much effort to get to hard spots. But only one skunk so far, and a little action is good enough for me, coffee is always good. Been hunting the momarsh as well, it is so easy and enjoyable hunting that boat. Can't wait till next year my pup will be ready to hunt.

I haven't had much time to scout like I want. And I don't have a boat so that is tough. But if anyone ever wants a hunting partner in NTX, I have a few decoys and I work hard and try to always learn what I can to kill more birds.

Look at the hen killer....at least he has a good looking pup wink

Don't feel bad, I drove all the way to KS last weekend...hunted one morning drove around almost 300 miles only to realize there weren't enough ducks up there to interest me. Drove home and played the rest off the week doing non hunting stuff bang

But it beat working.
