When I was young The Spring Branch Lions Club in Houston held an annual Turkey Shoot. It started out in Addicks, Moved to a couple different ranges throughout the years. Eventually fading away. Pearland had one and so did the Olalaska Lions Club near Huntsville.
These were offhand shooting at 100 yards at a life-size , clay, turkey head, pay $2.00 a shot, break the head, win "gobbles" add up your "gobble" at the end of the day and trade them on turkeys, hams, bacon slabs.
There were several "events" 50 yards Standing Bear, hit the dime sized hole in its chest, it fell over growling. "Swinging Hams" 25 yards twine strings hanging down with a weight on them, break the string, win gobbles.
Great fun, any old timers on here remember these???
I think we should resurrect these shoots, I know just the range to have at it too...........

It's a lot easier to talk about how good a shot you are than to actually show up and prove it.
The types of shooting you're talking about, bullseye, and silhouette shooting are going the way of the dodo.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

Used to have one every year in Crosby hosted by the Knights of Columbus or Lions. It's probably been 15 years though.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

Looking to find the ones with many different events, lots of rifle and handgun "offhand". They had shotgun trap, miss and out, and the old boring pot luck, shoot your shotgun at an "X", closest pellet to the center win the volley.
The wimins made desserts to sell, guys were grilling burgers and Frito pie, big tent where they had bingo games going. It was a real "State Fair" atmosphere. A guy was on a scaffold over looking the events. Whenever a shooter would break a turkey head or win an event , he would get on the P.A. system and make a big deal out of the hit.
would anyone be interested in staging/attending an event like this???
