I had another successful hunt this week using the Sightmark Photon XT. This IR scope has proven to be a great entry into night time pig hunting. This boar with taken with a 223 Barnes VOR-TX 55 gr TSX @ 114 yards with a single shot just above the left ear. It taped out with a 59" girth. I ended up boiling out the skull for my son.







For those that are hunting with IR/Thermal, what optics do you recommend for scanning? I'm ready to pick up some type of NV monocular to eliminate having to keep watch through the scope all the time.

VERY GOOD!

I like my FLIR PS32 (320 resolution, 1x native magnification) that is good for moderate distances. It has an internal, rechargeable battery and lasts for several hours. I don't leave it on all the time and it can last me all night. There is now a 640 resolution version that would be even better.

Pulsar makes the Quantum HD19 (1x) and HD38 (1.8x) and XD50 (2.8x). These are 384 resolution scopes that run on AA batteries (lithium preferred). Neat optics. I would suggest getting at least the HD38.

If you want to spend some more serious cash, IRDefense's IR Patrol (640 resolution, 1x) would be terrific.

Yes, I use the ps32 as well and it's worked perfect for me. I hunt with a pulsar 750 and it's awesome to be able to scan the fields with the ps32.....if it's alive you will see it. Their has been times I couldn't even spot the hog with the scope and had to find it with the Flir...well worth the money

I noticed in the picture you have the cap open on the scope. If that's how your using it, pop that the middle out of the cap and close the cap on the scope. Refocus it. You will be surprised how much better the picture will be.

You will like the HD19, it is a handy device that makes night hunting so much easier.
Pulsar makes a rechargeable external battery pack for it that will last dang near all night long. I have one of them for my HD38 and don't know why I didn't go to it sooner. Around 100 bucks shipped.

where did you get the head done?

Very nice! The mount turned out great! I'd like to do that the next time we get one worthy enough!
