I am considering doing a floor pedastal on a kudu I shot this summer. Does anybody have an idea of what to expect costwise for a pedastal and simple habitat? The shoulder mount is $1200 so I was guessing around $2k total. I don't want any hide inlays or exotic materials.

Thanks BMD. Do you have anyone you recommend going through for pedastals? I'm using one of the big taxi shops in Houston and I know they can provide pedastals but it wouldn't hurt to check around.

Why don't you just ask the taxidermist who's mounting it?

Why don't you just ask the taxidermist who's mounting it? I emailed them but haven't received a response yet. I'm not in any hurry and have no doubts that we'll get it squared away when it arrives. I am just trying to figure out where the mounts will go and get a feel for what all I would like done.

If you go to taxidermy.net and look in the forum section, you can find awesome deals on pedestals. There are several guys on that site who hand make them out of different woods and any size you need. Most seem to be in the $200-$400 range for one big enough for a sable/elk

Thanks MAP, I'll check it out. I've looked at the site but never thought about checking it for pedestals. Someone also pointed me to Kilpatrickwoodworks. They quoted me $400 shipped.

I built my own base for my Kudu. Used some remnant granite from our remodel so it matched the rest of the house, and wrapped the base in the left over back skin from my cape.
