I have always heard they are good. Had the opportunity to get one today(traded in at my local gun shop/pawnshop so have to wait 20 days) it was a decent price so I went ahead and spoke for it. They appear to be rising in value and I love a 1911 so figured I would add it to my collection. Anyone have/had one? Good, bad experience?

I've had three. Two were the standard 1911 and one was sized like an officer's model. The two standard pistols were great for reliability and okay for accuracy. The compact gave me a lot of feeding problems, but that may have been due to the fact that all my ammo had been loaded for the full-size pistols. I wish I still had all three of them.

I just checked Gunbroker to see if any were available and how much one might have to pay. I say ! They're okay pistols, but nicer stuff can be had for those prices. If the fit and finish was better than utilitarian, they might be worth that much, but they ain't, and they ain't!

Yea, I checked GB earlier, and those are crazy prices. I am getting this one less than half of those prices!

just looked on GB and those prices are nuts! you could get two new RIA 1911's for the price of one of those Norinco's.
if you got yours at less than half those prices i'd say ya done good.

Understand one thing, the Norinco's are prized for their hard steel, many race/target guns have been built on them. I haven't looked at the economics lately of buying a Norinco, then customizing, versus full custom, twenty years ago it made sense.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

I don't plan to do anything to it. Just shoot it some and add it to the collection. I love the 1911 platform, and like to have those you don't see every day.

I have one I bought back in the 90's. I'm on the second barrel and it is somewhat customized mostly for reliability and set up to shoot hot loads or constant Hardball. It is a very well made pistol and was a fine basis for what I wanted, a hard working general purpose pistol. I have other 1911's but this is the one I always have around.

I bought my first one in 93 when they first hit the shelves. I think I paid $205 for it. The funny thing is, I recall several folks standing around running them down, criticizing the Norincos for being made of "cheap, soft steel." There must be few places where you hear more BS than a gun shop.

The fit and finish of the one I had was about the same as a GI issue 1911. Nothing special but a decent, serviceable gun.
