Supposedly the Commander-In-Chief signed a bill to release 90,000 surplus 1911 through the Civilian Marksmenship Program (CMP).

I don't have 30 years to wait for them to figure out how to effect the sale.

Where are you guys buying good condition GOV 1911s ?

I was about to type your first paragraph. Good luck!

Yeah, I emailed the CMP and got an answer that basically had the tone of "don't get your hopes up."

'Don't own a single .45, but would like to have one. As a tike, I briefly got to hold my grandfather's WWI 1911. Then it got stolen. mad It was in great condition too 'cause he had flat feet, so they never shipped him overseas. He bought and sold horses and mules for the Army.

From my very limited experience, just keep your eyes open. I have a couple Remington Rands and that's the most common make I've seen in shops and elsewhere for sale. I think Colt and others made more, but owners seem to hang on to them tighter than the Rands. One of my Rands was either rearsenaled just before it was surveyed or was never issued. I can't identify ny rearsenal marks on it, just inspector stamps. The other is so loose it'd eat pea gravel if I asked it to. I traded a calf for the fist about 30 years ago and picked up the other in a pawn shop about 5 years ago. Happy hunting!

They are at any gunshow you go to - but they aren't cheap no more.
