Any recommendations on which barrel to get for an sbr? Need to keep decent accuracy at 100yds but in all reality the gun will most likely be used at distances from 0-50yds. I found a cheap one from midway. Any thoughts on it http://www.midwayusa.com/product/193385/...melonite-coated

You can get a complete upper without BCG for well under $300. I would go that route over spending $100 on just a barrel.

I have a 10.5" AR and an 11" Bolt gun in .223 and an 8.5" and 10.5" in 300 BO among others.

Doc what ammo do you shoot out of the 8.5? Do you shoot it with a can? What distance are you getting and what optics are you running??

I hunt with my suppressed SBR (6.8 SPC II) so accuracy is very important to me. As such, the barrel I use is an ARP. http://ar15performance.com/

While a super accurate barrel may not be the prescription for plinking and home defense, I still don't subscribe the "any old barrel will do" mantra (your life may depend on it, no?). A quality barrel will ensure the chamber is right (not too tight, not too loose), among other things. In that respect, I'm sticking with something like BCM, Daniel Defense, Colt, LMT, etc.

Great barrels

I shoot Chad's 125 SST's out of my 300 BO's and have had good results. I only shoot suppressed on all my guns. My 8.5" is used strictly with thermal so haven't really shot much over 150 yards with it, have killed several pigs and yotes with it. My 10.5" barrel has a Leupold VX-R 3-9x that I use for deer hunting or daytime hog hunting. I try to keep my shots with those under 200 yards. My hunting locations don't really give shots over that distance and if they did I would use one of my bolt guns.
