So I'm debating on picking up a Hi Power 9mm, serial number puts it at 1987 range. It's supposed to Made in Belgium, looks to have a parkerized finish, it has the ring hammer and only a single safety lever instead ambidextrous. Has the FN markings on the left side of the slide. I do not know yet if it's "Made in Belgium, Assembled in Portugal" or just "Made in Belgium" stamped. Any advice good or bad is appreciated and what is the approximate value? Thank you.

Are you wanting it as a collector or as a shooter? Does the serial number start with 245 or a letter? The date you given for that pistol doesn't really match what I'm seeing.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

Like Hwy Man said the S# will help determine if it's a Civilian or Military contract pistol, but it looks like an 80's era Mark II or Mark III to me. FN Herstal (Belgium) manufacture. They used the parkerized finish for both civilian and military guns. Serial numbers that begin with 245 are Civilian guns, 215 were military/police guns. Here is a table that will help you determine manufacture date: http://www.browning.com/support/date-your-firearm/hi-power-pistol.html

I've always liked those pistols, but really don't have a use for one. Browning said he liked it better than the 1911 from what I've read.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.
