Are these the birds who eyes light up like a dang raccoon at night when you hit em with a light? I think ErathKid has a few at his place that nest on the ground.

Somebody on here posted that one calls right outside his bedroom, all night, every night. 'Driving him batty. I can imagine, even though I love the sound of them (in moderation).

Well, it seems something has happened. Went to look today and She and the eggs were gone. I guess that can happen when you just leave your eggs on the ground in the open with no nest or anything.

If there are no egg shells then most likely they hatched. She will remove every piece of the shells from the nest area and immediately remove the little ones to another area not far away. I've seen nighthawks pick up both babies at once and fly them a short distance from where they were jumped. If you should jump her again carefully walk to where you seen her fly up and look for the babies, there will be two and they'll be huddled together.
