Are ricochets more likely to occur shooting subsonic versus supersonic?
I was shooting 22lr and 308 Win subsonic this weekend and it seems as if nearly every shot could be heard ricocheting.
Is this an actual phenomenon related to shooting subsonic?
Note: sure ricochets happen shooting supersonic loads but maybe at a lesser rate due to:
Bullets impacting objects at faster velocities subjecting the projectile to violent eruption
Shooters not being able to hear when bullets strike objects at great distances when the projectile has slowed from super to sub sonic speed
Bullets striking objects at supersonic speed and driving into burrowing/embedding into objects.
Anyhow, I'd like to hear If others are observing the same or know of documented studies on this

What were the bullets hitting?
Generally, yes, I have seen more ricoches when bullets are subsonic. Hardness and angle of the target have quite a bit to do with it as well.

What were the bullets hitting? Typical environmental objects: Tree pile we use as a backstop, ground, and live trees

I noticed the same thing when shooting my .330 and .308 sub sonic.
