I am looking to get some sort of canoe or jon boat to get back into some of the WMAs for hog/duck hunting.
If I was to get a canoe what do yall recommend for footage, and motor?
Same thing with jon boats?
Thanks

I run a 1952 15'4" Grumman Sport Boat and couldn't be happier. It's basically a wide, square stern canoe rated for 1500lbs. It has a 9.9hp on the back, and I'm about to put a manual jack plate on it to raise and lower it for different conditions. It's easy to push pole, and I can lift it over a fallen tree by myself. It's been through bays, lakes and marshes. The downside is, I can't carry as much equipment as I'd like due to space. It can handle the weight, just not much room.

I use an old town guide 14'7" canoe. Very stable and perfect for two guys in remote areas. Easy to handle solo as well. It's not all that heavy either. I personally prefer composite over aluminum. I've used both many times. The composite is much quieter. And lighter!

I like a 16/48 semi-v bottom with a 25. It's still small enough to be maneuverable but is stable enough to do whatever you want in. I started off with a 14' v bottom with a 15. There's no comparison between these two boats. If you go Jon boat don't go shorter than 16'.
