Drop camp would be okay. Maybe a two on one guide. Not looking for a "trophy" area or animal. Just a realistic shot at a bull/cow with my bow. I've done the DIY type hunts and not really down to hauling the gear needed to do that any more.

I pay $2800 for Elk in New Mexico. I hunt near Alfalfa fields. $800.00 to the outfitter who just makes a call and 2K to the landowner. He stays booked with the same hunters every year at that price.
I know a guy who found a drop camp in Colorado 3 years ago for $1800. He missed an Elk and got a good MD. I hunted near the 4 corners in SW Colorado 6 years ago and paid landowner $2500 for Elk and MD. 3 of us took MD and my 2 buds shot Elk. In Wyoming you can still find landowners with decent prices. We paid %400 total trespass on 20K acres for MD and Antelope. Do your homework and you can find some great deals. Of course if you have the funds than odds are very good with a higher priced reputable Outfitter with quality guides. I am always looking for good deals out of state. I hunted WT bow for 7 days in Kansas last year for $800.00. Passed on many young bucks. Good Luck

Thanx. I'm hoping to stay at or under the $2500 mark. Thank you for the info.

so is this pricing self guided or fully guided, the OP asked about a 2x1 fully guided hunt?

I also mentioned drop camp. Just no way I can hike miles in with gear and pack out an animal anymore. And the diy group thing seldom nets many elk either so I'm willing to spend a little more to lesson the burden and increase my chances.

$2500 is a tough request to hunt private. There are many outfitters in NM and CO that will guide you on public for that price after you draw. I use a guy in CO and his hunts depend on when. Last week of September is $4500, other weeks $3500.

you get what you pay for
even with a drop camp
just remember
it may be worth to save up for another couple years
i would be very skeptical of anything under that 4,000 to 4,500 mark
just speaking from experience

For a outfitted hunt your most likely looking at 4k-6k depending on when, where, and how long the hunt is for, this is in addition to the cost of the license.

I'm willing to do public but it would have to be a situation where the drop camp is further from the crowds. I have seen them advertised from 1800 to 3500 a couple years ago. Just would like to shop with a good idea what is realistic. If it's out of my range I understand.

I went hunting on public land and private owned ranches last November in Montana. Tons of mule deer up there didn't see many elk. 3 of us got mule deer and 1 got a white tail just before they had to leave. Not real expensive for a DIY hunt. Lots of hunters every where.

I've done DIY hunts. I don't have the equipment or the ability to pack out an elk any more. To be successful you must get back beyond the crowds. Or get lucky. I killed 2 bulls in 4 years that way, just rag horns. Hunted 3 years with a rifle, one with a bow. Killing an elk with a rifle isn't all that difficult. I'm in for the bow or no go.
