I'm done with snake boots, the last 4 pair I've bought have not been comfortable. I'm thinking about getting some gaiters but need some opinions on what brands are good ones. Been doing some searches and reviews seem to be all over the place. Looking for a light, not so hot pair.
Those that wear them, what do you say?

I am opposite - I tried the gators and they were hot and a pain to wear. I spent the money and bought a good pair of boots that are comfortable

I have a pair of Rattlers brand Original Snake Gaiters that I have used for over 20 years. No complaints.

I have both the Turtleskin gaiters and full chaps and have used them for years. The conditions and what exactly I'm doing dictate which ones I wear although it's usually the gaiters. I prefer them over dedicated snake boots as it allows me to wear different hunting/hiking boots depending on what I'm doing.

I wear them all the time at the lease pretty much year around Stompy. They make for good brush guards too. The advantage is that you can wear comfortable boots. The disadvantage is that they are a pain in the arse to keep up with and put on. I bought a pair of ForEverlast Snake Guard Shields a long time ago and they are starting to fray but I will get another season or two out of them. http://www.basspro.com/ForEverlast-Snake-Guard-Shields/product/12020205011219/

The all leather Chippewas are very comfortable, but expensive. The Chippewas with the cordura uppers weren't comfortable at all to me. I also have a pair of Danner snake boots that are extremely comfortable. And a pair of 17" Twisted X steel toe snake boots that are less than comfortable.
I find the gaiters to be hot, uncomfortable and a pain to put on and take off. Good boots all the way for this guy.

I've tried Chippewas, Danner, Lacrosse and Rocky snake boots, didn't like any of them. Had an old pair of Rocky's that were cool and comfortable and I wore them out and Rocky doesn't make them anymore.

I have hip snake gaiters but was concerned about the foot not being adequately protected. When I started seeing more rattlers, I switched to Chips. I've read that good leather boots are required to protect your feet from being bit when wearing chaps, or rather the leather should deflect the fangs, but I decided to buy snake boots instead. I'm less apprehensive now with 17" high boots.

If I am not going to walking a lot, I wear my snake boots (rocky brand) and if I am going to be walking a lot, I wear comfortable hiking boots with chaps or gaitors. But, 95% of the time, I forget both and just use my regular shoes!
To answer your question better, gaitors are a very good choice. We (Cabela's) have a very difficult time keeping them in stock in the south.

I preferred Chippewas when I wore snake boots 365 days a year on a ranch. It took me a week of wearing them to break them in good. Once they were broken in I hated to have to get a new pair.

After three failed attempts at finding a comfortable and durable pair of snake boots, I wear gators when there will be lots of walking or if its wet. With gators, stay away from anything with velcro and anything with snaps. I cannot tell you the brand, but my favorites gators have nylon straps and buckles.
We all need to practice Whoa more.

I have tried 3 different brand of chaps/gaiters and two different pairs of boots. Turtle skin material is as thin and as comfortable as you can get in my opinion. I wear a pair of their waist high chaps in Southwest TX all summer long when at the lease. Sure you'll sweat in them. I sweat in shorts. But compared to everything else out there they are the only brand I'll recommend. Expensive, but worth it.

I've got a pair of zip up chips but if I'm making a quick run to the feeders or to the tank I wear these....easy on and off not overly hot and cheap at academy. They have stopped a copperhead. They are higher than most snake boots. If you don't mind lookin like a toe dancer I recommend them

Most of the time I don't need any protection, but I usually run across a couple a year in my yard while weedeating. I'm on the ranch about everyday doing something, there are times when I run across a snake or two repairing fence and general ranch work, I usually see 10-15 a year. Sometimes when I'm into my work I don't pay as close attention as I should, that's why I would like a pair of good gaiters.

hold on Newt, we got a runaway
