I have a Savage 17 HMR I am going to change out the scope on from a fixed 4x truglo illuminated scope... how important is it to buy a scope made for the 17 as opposed to just any old 3-9 scope? I know BSA makes a "sweet 17" scope intended for the 17 HMR? any scope recommendations? I only bought the gun for around $200 so not looking to break the bank on a scope it's really just for coons and rabbits.

I would go with either the bsa sweet 17 or a cheap 3-9 Bushnell banner. The banner is suprisingly clear in low light or at night with a light.

The BSA scope is made for the 17 what exactly does that mean? How is it made for it? And thanks for the suggestion RickyM...

Found this on ebay: Bushnell Banner 3-9x40 IR Scope 713949I Illuminated Reticle for 50.00 brand new.

I like the illuminated reticle cause try to night hunt the coons at the feeders using a green light and red sights.

Any scope will work. I got a Cabelas .17 scope for both of mine. It has hash marks for 150 and 200 yards. No adjustments needed. I think it they were like 100 bucks
