First off I hope each and everyone of you had a successful hunting season! As some of you know this last hunting season was my first year on my new property. I purchased the property back in May 2015 and shortly after I installed a new feeder taking the place of an old feeder that the previous owner had standing yet it had been dry for a while. I basically went with that for the season.
First real off season I am looking at going to a completely different location of my property to add more options and adding another feeder and etc.
as you can see this particular location is wooded with mesquites, Oaks and tons of Broom weed from all of last years rain. In the picture of the large oak tree it seems someone started sinking T post I'm guessing to make a feeder pen however it's only 5ft x 10 ( very small if it was going to be one ) I have since removed those poles.
I was thinking about moving 15 to 20 feet out under the tree and making a larger Feeder pen and at the opposite end in the picture installing another box blind. Another idea was to follow through with moving the feeder pen 15 to 20 feet out under the tree yet I figured I could utilize the tree and install a Treestand up in the tree and hunt that way.

What is yalls thought?

Another question all of that broom weed! Would you cut it down or leave it but just remove the part where the feeder pen is?
Didn't know if more natural would help or not.

Can't see your pics. The small area with tpost may have been for a hog trap. I would try to builda big feed pen about 30-50 feet from the tree and if you have to halfway destroy a big oak to put up a tree stand I would say don't do it, especially if you don't have a bunch of big oaks

Can't see the photos either. Something to consider in pen placement is that if you put it under the tree canopy, it will be much harder to see what is there at first light and at dusk.

can't see them either.
Your pics may be too big; down-size them, and try again (over 1024 x 1024 is usually too big).

also, broomweed is worthless/toxic insofar as browse/nutrition is concerned - get rid of it and get something else going.

Google it. Need to get it in spring when it is green shoots and starts growing. We just have it where the cows hang out the most.

Our best luck has been mowing it down, waiting about a week, and then spraying the shoots as they're starting to grow again. Couple/few weeks later we'll plow.

Here ya go, original images were way too big. I just re-emailed them to myself from phone and selected a smaller size...for future reference on how I did it.

Thank you !!!!!!!

I will remember that.

Ok now

Ok just so y'all know I hunt both bow and rifle season now since I purchased this new property last summer however I am new to hunting with rifles and using feeders. For 13 years I have installed my tree stand and basically waited for the deer to walk my trails.

The hunting area That came set up already on the property consist of a 4x6 elevated blind 130 yards from a feeder. It Worked very well this year however I'm wanting to move to another part of the property and set up another set up so I have multiple locations if the original isn't working that day.

The big oak you see in the pictures someone tried to build a small feeder pen from poles or t post you see in the ground. Those posts are actually gone now! I'm about to get all of the broom weed mowed down.
I was thinking about building a new larger feeder pen about 20 to 30 yards out under the canopy of the tree.

Would you put another blind down field from the feeder pen that I'm about to build for rifle hunting? Or Utilize my clamp on style tree stand like the picture below ( does not harm the tree ) and use camo and good scent cover and hunt that way with bow or rifle?

Minus the broom weed! The outter edges of the property have large oaks the center consist of lotus and mesquite trees.

Trying to mix things up and have more hunting locations

Clear that entire area with Remedy, plow and get you a litle food plot action going in that area.

A few questions, how many acres do you have to work with? do you have a tractor?

As far as the live oak, you may consider this, if it is out all alone as it appears in the photo, it may be a hot spot in the fall for acorns, even though they aren't a preferred acorn. If that is the case, you need to make sure the probable deer's route will not make the tree a poor stand location for our predominately Southerly winds.

Agree on adding a food plot, besides being fun to do, you will draw in deer you didn't know you had. I have never used a weed killer for a food plot, works for a year, I don't need/want the chemicals and is an added expense. There will be seeds that will still come up from various plants that can sit dormant for many, many years.

Your 1st best bet, would be to have your local county ag extension agent out, they are free and can give you great info on what is growing on your property, what grows well in your area and ways to combat aggressive weeds. Ask him about you doing a prescribed burn, one of the best rejuvinating things that can happen on poor soils.
