I have a Super X2 Light Field that has all of a sudden decided it will not reliable cycle 3 dram 1 1/8 oz. loads. This has been my choice quail load for several years and the gun has worked flawlessly up to now with the load. I tried 3 1/4 dram 1 1/8 shells and they cycle ok. Have better than a case of the 3's so need to figure it out. Gas system is clean and the spring is good. Any ideas from shotgun fixers?

Sometimes people neglect to clean the gas ports well enough, they can get choked with residue and not let enough gas through.

If it ain't a gas issue (but it sounds like it is) then my only other suggestion is to make sure your chamber doesn't have any build up in it causing excess friction during extraction. I have only seen that once but polishing the chamber fixed a issue just like that although it wasn't a SX2.

Update on my SX2 Light Field. As the gas system was perfect and there was no mechanical or chamber issues, I pulled the stock and took apart the recoil spring assembly. The entire assembly was dirty and the spring guide was so crudded up I had to work to get it out. I test fired after putting it back together and the first shot it ejected but did not release the shell in the magazine. Don't know what happened there but I shot it five more times and it cycled the 3 dram loads perfectly. I am not certain the problem is solved but prior to cleaning the recoil spring assembly it would not even completely eject a 3 dram hull so it appears to be working good. Just thought this might be helpful to those who use gas operated shotguns that have a recoil spring in the stock, and be careful when you release the spring because it is going somewhere if you do not have it completely under control! Hit me in the top lip and it stung pretty good just glad it did not hit my eye. So use caution if you take one apart.
