The coastal opener was definetly one to remember! It was a emotional roller coaster! But when fronts hit you from all different angles you roll with it! Our groups ended up shooting full redhead limits with bonus bluebills and buffleheads! Although the pics don't show full redhead limits they did! I take full responsibility for not getting a whole group shot!

Sunday

Sunday morning we woke up with another front with 35-40 mph winds and rain on the way! Decided to call the morning trip and it was a great idea! Waves stacked up 3-4 ft on the entrances of the back lakes and the open bay, well wouldn't have been a good idea! About noon the winds died down , waves got flat and back out to scout!

Monday

Sat on a back lake pond where we had found some puddle ducks the day before and ended up with a gadwall, mottle duck and 8 redheads for our morning group! That evening Guide Brandon Currie, my 5yo Kaleb , my wife and I had a decent evening shoot. 5 redheads and 4 bufflehead heads! The high light of my Monday and season so far was my 5 yo dropping the hammer on his first duck!

A bull wigeon came in sat and put his feet down in the spread and my 5 yo shot and he folded! But with all the high fiving we didn't see he was still very much alive! Well he hopped up and left in a hurry! Not 5 minutes later and after calling my 5yo down a lone redhead drake came in! He was dropping in and my son dropped the hammer and killed his first duck! It was definitely a proud dad moment! We made sure he was feet up the time before the celebration started! And last but not least the last duck to hit the spread was a bufflehead head hen. He beaded down and water swatted her . She still had a little movement in her but crippled for sure. We finished her off and called it a evening!

Our puddle ducks are showing up slowly but surely! But our redheads are in the thousands right now!

Dude that will forever be in his memory. You will be long gone dead and he will be telling the story of that day to his grandchildren. You're a bad [censored] dad.

Congrats to you and your boy. That is awesome. My group saw you guys at the Mexican joint in Seadrift and at Charlie's shortly thereafter on Sat. I'm in full agreement that the Redheads are down in numbers. Where we hunted Sat morning and Sun morning we had some puddle ducks but most didn't want to cooperate. I think our blind set up was a little less than optimal. Finished Sat with a 4 man limit of redheads, 2 GW, 3 BW, Pintail, Gadwall, Widgeon and a bonus goose. We made it out Sunday, but did not last long. I am glad we called it when we did. The ride back was smooth, but as we loaded up it got real bad. Another 10mins and we would not have enjoyed being out there.

I like what it did to the clouds too. Them boys need to discover young girls, they would probably smile a little more, well for a while anyways.

Congratulations to your boy. You're doin' it right. Got it flagged for a coast duck hunt. In case you're interested in a good ol' boy duck hunt. Emphasis on "ol'".
