Does anyone have any recommendations of how or where to hunt in windy conditions? It does not seem like they are headed to the feeders when it is windy. Thank you.

Notable trails in cover would be a good start. Depending on your terrain, the lee-side of hills and other sheltered areas might be good.

What he said. We had success seeing lots of deer in extreme wind this year hunting like that, also leeward side of thick cover.

Read an article once that stated deer will move less and "bed down" more once the wind reaches a certain point, but cannot remember at what average wind speed given. But I do remember it was thought to be the result of their inability to detect isolated movement, sounds, and scents.

I know from my own experience that deer will move less in very windy conditions, such as right after a strong cold front. For that reason, I prefer to wait for that first cold, calm morning or evening well after a front to hit the woods.

Saturday morning the wind was howling. A couple of times I thought about getting down or being blown down. I saw more deer than I have seen all year. Sunday morning, it was calm and pleasant and I saw very few deer. I believe just like others that to see deer in windy conditions, hunt areas that are blocked from the wind----draws, sides of hills, etc. out of the wind. Sometimes with this weekend being an example, the deer dictate where to hunt. I wanted to see as much open area as possible and with the fact that the deer were rutting, I saw a lot of deer.
