nice guy, but still clueless. His dad left him a small tract that shares some fence with me. He and his buddy hunt every year, but this is the first year I've really met and talked to them. They came over this afternoon to say hello, and they were real happy that they had gotten a deer. I have to admit that I hoped it wasn't one of the big bucks I've been feeding and not shooting. It wasn't. They had killed a doe. Well...this is a no-doe, two buck AR county. They had no idea about the rules or even antler restrictions. I gently clued them in.

The bucks have gone nocturnal, except for my front yard/pasture. I had 10 does and two 8 points in the yard early yesterday morning. The bucks knocked heads all over the yard for at least an hour. The does ignored them, and they didn't pursue.

Some people don't realize the rules are different from county to county, despite the state issued tags. They also don't realize just what kind of trouble the game warden can cause them. Usually, that sort of information can enlighten them to the point of correcting their ignorance.

Lots of people are under the impression that since they own the place that the rules don't apply to them. We looked at a lease a few years ago and the owner said just that. He was keeping 100 acres for himself, and that he was only looking for does. I told him this is a no doe county, he replied "that's fine, I own this land so those rules only apply to people who lease the land." rolleyes

It's amazing how ignorant some people are.

Hard to believe land owners don't thnk the law applies to them. But nothing really surprises me any more.
