It seems in loading for my .280 Rem that my primers are a little high. Loading both Fed and Rem brass with S&B as well as CCI primers. Using an RCBS hand priming tool and always clean my primer pockets with an RCBS hand tool. Anybody have any ideas other than using a pocket uniformer to make sure the primer pocket is in spec ? Thanks.

There is a notice on RCBS site about hand primer and primers high seating. If you use the early shell holders (1960 to 1980?) you may see high primers. Try another shell holder that is fairly new and contact RCBS if you still have problems. I ran into this years ago and happened to see the notice on their site. GL

Thanks guys. My shellholder is dated. May be the problem. I'll check it out.

You want your primer depth to be between .004" to .008" deep (below flush) to be in spec.

FWIW I stopped having high primer problems when I stopped using a tired Lee handheld nut cracker primer tool, and went back to the old & slow RCBS tool mounted on the RockChucker's frame. Ron
