Here's a excerpt from a log I kept during my 91/92 season. Pay attention tho the post about the Hines Nursery pasture. There was a total of about 20 coveys in that pasture. I fell in with those guys and later put my Johnny house over there. It's only two mies from my house.

Do you see suburban quail habitat disappearing in your area?

Bill I've got 300 to 500 acres of untouched Texas out back and have heard not one quail since we moved here almost twenty years ago. So habitat is not my problem. Looking forward to their return. Man, as a kid they stopped my heart in the back yard. They scared me so many times when flushing I would holler at them.

More people now than ever, that's for sure and not likely to change.

Habitat, disease, predators.......one thing we found out...a nice drink of water never hurts.

I hunted quail on a pasture that bordered the Grapevine highway east of Fort Worth in the late 60s.

We used to kick em up in Grand Prairie and had quite a few on the farm near Ennis.

Of course, as a kid I hunted, fished and camped on land that now is the intersection of LBJ 635 and Coit Road in North Dallas.
