I've got a '92 toyota 4runner that has some sort of fuel system issue. It will die on my every 10 minutes or so, or it will start but die as soon as I apply the accelerator. I can put a little gas in it and it will start up just fine until it dies again. There is no leak that I can find, and it doesn't help to leave the gas tank screw open. I think there also may be a timing issue.

It still manages to get me around the lease, but is annoying and I worry that the problem will get worse and the vehicle will stop running all together. Does anybody know of a trustworthy mechanic in the Wichita Falls area they would recommend? I doubt its a serious issue, but I'd like to get it fixed. My lease is about 30 minutes south of Wichita Falls between Holliday and Archer City. I plan on trying to get it into the shop the first Friday of December.

Any responses would be appreciated, but I'm not going to try fix it myself. I tried to replace the fuel filter but am afraid I'll bust the fuel line trying to loosen the bolts on the existing one. Thanks.

Does it have a Mass air flow sensor? Sounds like the intake piping has a leak to me...

He could be right, start with a fuel filter. I might be able to look at it Saturday afternoon....

Dennis DeArmand on Old Jacksboro Highway across from Scott's Hamburgers. He is reasonable and won't do what you don't need.

Wow, thanks Lefty. I think I'm just going to take it to a mechanic and get a good look over of the whole vehicle. I'm pretty sure it has some type of timing problem, too, because it throws that code on the computer checker thingy and it sounds like it sometimes too. I bought it this summer, and I kind of took the approach of "oh well, its just a deer lease vehicle all I need it to do is get me to the stand," but now I'm thinking that at any time one of these little problems could leave me broke down with a 2 mile walk in the freezing cold dark as the only option.

thank you, I'll try to find him online and give him a call to set up a time to get it in his shop. this is what I was hoping to get when I posted this - a name of a mechanic.

I know there's an issue with the fuel system and a timing issue, and I know that sadly I'm not the guy to fix either of them.
