What products would you suggest for firearm cleanings, Hoops, Birchwood, Butch's, Break-free etc.?

Hoppes#9 is good for weapons that are a bit dirty but for more severe cases, neglected firearms may require other, more aggressive cleaners.

The ultimate in both speed and thoroughness for severe cases is an electric cleaner.

Electric Cleaner

Thirty or forty-five minutes with one of these will remove everything from the steel. They are great for old military weapons, neglected sporting arms, etc.. - Too radical though for everyday use, and light cleaning jobs. For that, Hoppes#9 is your friend.

I prefer Butch's and Montana Xtreme. It seems like they get clean more thoroughly. Barnes CR-10 or Montana Xtreme Copper solvent if copper fouling is bad.

Wipe-out patch out or bore tech eliminator for me now. Tired of the chemical smells from the other crap. Only problem is that you have to order them online as no one that I know of stocks them locally.

I stick with Bore Tech Eliminator these days, usually with nylon brushes to give it a little help. Sometimes I use some Sweet's if the metal fouling is really persistent. I ALWAYS finish up with a few patches of Hoppe's No.9 to get all the other solvents out, then three dry patches.

I usually foam with one of the foam products... Can't tell one brand is better than another. In fact not sure all are not the same just relabeled these days.
I most times put the foam in at the range so by the time I get home it's soaked a while and carbon is easier to remove. Also by that time if there is any copper it will show on the patches from the cleaner starting to work on it.

And finish with patch with either Hoppe's or some bore cleaner from Pro-Shot. I also go in and clean out the action and re-lube (VERY lightly)the lugs with some Pro-shot pro-gold lube.

Whatever solvent you choose, never use anything other than a long, one piece cleaning rod to run patches down the inside of the barrel. Those three piece rods are notorious for scratching barrels and impacting the accuracy of the firearm.

On reference to the cleaning rod - metal or fiberglass?

Fiberglass or Teflon coated metal are best. But IMO, one piece aluminum rods work well if you are careful with them.

Also, many will tell you it's best to run cleaning patches from the bore end of the barrel to avoid damaging the crown or opening at the end of the barrel. The smallest scratch or cut at the crown can greatly impact accuracy. This is where those three piece rods can do their worst damage as the joints can rub against the sides of the crown.

CLP to clean and lube as well. Bore snake and a couple patches pulled through on bore snake for me.

I go to Bone Daddy's for the burgers....yeah, that's why.
