So, got a call from my truly Ophidiophobic wife letting me know we had a new friend in the garage. Young Timber rattler.

They have some pretty marking. I got a Diamond back out of my equipment barn a couple weeks ago. Relocated him about a mile away.

You could say that. confused But certainly not welcome in the abode or close to.

We see them pretty regularly here on the property. Apparently the State thinks they're threatened so they have legal protection.

As I understand it, because it is considered threatened, we're not supposed to harm, handle, or transport them, otherwise I'd say come and get it. It's now out of the garage. Biggest one we've had here at the house was a VERY fat 5 footer. This one was only about 18". Bigger than a hatchling but still a juvenile I'd say.

Probably why he was in the garage in the first place. We never stop trapping mice in there.

I have moved several around here to keep them from harms way....if it wasn't illegal, I'd have a couple of those and an indigo or two....great snakes!

They are a pretty snake. This one seems a bit PO'd.

Protected or not, it would receive harm if it was in my house or shop.

Timbers are definitely a fine looking snake. Great pic! And watch out for siblings.....

Ha! I know what you mean. Used the 24-70mm that was on the camera at the time. Stayed a safe distance and then just cropped the picture down to just the snake.

They all seem to have the same mean look to em, like they're frowning at ya, po'd at the world. Pretty markings though.

They are a beautifully marked snake. The encounters that I've had with them all were docile and not aggressive at all. Unlike a diamondback that will get PO'ed if the sense your nearby.

I'm pretty close to the Navasota river. Lots of hardwood timber and bottom land.
