How is the deer hunting around Throckmorton? I've heard it's spotty but can also be fantastic if you get the right place. Diehardoutfitter, do you have any idea? I've concluded Childress will have to wait until my three little ones become less involved in school activities.

If you can find a decent lease, you will have deer, hogs, turkey and dove. Your lease will need good water.

There are some rascals leasing in Throckmorton County, so buyer beware.

Sbushee, I don't run anything in the area but I'm sure it's like everywhere else...coming out of drought. Just do your homework and take a couple trips out to the place you are looking at. Try to talk to cowboys and neighboring landowners.

Throckmorton is spotty, but there are many large ranches in the area. I would recommend north and south of town. Especially south the closer you get to Albany the better IMO.

I grew up in Throckmorton and my family owns land there. I wouldn't consider Throckmorton County to be spotty. We own land east, west and south of town and all areas are good for deer, turkeys, doves and hogs (if you want the blasted things).

Agreed spotty was a bad choice in words. There is a ton of game in the county. Some areas are just hunted Harder then others.

I hunt south of town and our lease is great. It's like anywhere you hunt. If you manage it, it can be good.

I hunted there for many years... one of the best leases I was ever on was west of town.... one of the WORST I was ever on was North of town.....

My first lease was west of town out by the lake. The land was amazing and game rich, but the land owner was Kokoko for coco puffs so it ruined the whole thing.
