Does anyone have a suggestion for a charger for a 6V SLA battery? I just don't seem to have luck with the ones that you buy at Tractor Supply or Wal Mart.

What maximum said. I have gone for years without having to worry about charging my feeder batteries.

clu, I know what you are talking about. I have bought a few of the cheap 6-12 volt chargers that never really worked very well. Even if you use a solar "charger" which is only a battery maintainer, you will still need a charger if/when your battery gets low. I use the small trickle chargers for a motorcycle battery.

If you are in reasonable driving distance from Groesbeck, I'll give you a brand new 6v solar charger. I bought two at Academy and only needed one. It's still in the package.

Whatever unit you wind up with, put the wiring in conduit, or the coons will destroy it. I didn't believe that the first time I mounted a solar charger....and the coons destroyed it completely. Amazing. I wish I had pictures.

I suppose I should also mention that the solar panel charger that I bought to replace the dead one was a bit more expensive and was metal where the first one had plastic. The freebie I have is mostly plastic, but it is free.

Thanks for the responses guys. I bought a Noco Genius G1100 charger. It charges 6v and 12 volt with different setting for each. It will even charge lithium batteries. I got it on Amazon for $47 and just ordered another for my Dad and it is down to $44. I highly recommend it. The first round of batteries were dead as a hammer and it brought them back around. Placed them in the feeders this evening so I can charge the new ones I put in last Friday.

I will probably go solar next year but I'm only 25 minutes from our land so switching batteries is not a big deal, especially now that I have a charger that works.

603Country.....thanks for the offer. I only go through Groesbeck once a year on my way up to Ennis and already made the trip this year. I was wondering what to do to protect from squirrels and coons though and conduit makes sense. Will definitely keep this under consideration when installing solar.
