I am looking for an opportunity to hunt diamondback rattlesnakes this fall where they den. My nephews attend a small parochial school and they have a wild game feed fundraiser each spring. They would like to feature rattlesnake this year and I know I won't be able to come up with enough table fare from the areas I hunt prairie rattlers here in NE. I would sure appreciate any information you may have regarding good areas on public land or any of the private land owners you may know that would like to thin their snake population.

Thanks,

They are usually denned up the first weekend in October here in NE. I'm not sure when they congregate in TX or OK, but am pretty flexible about getting down there whenever the weather is conducive and the snakes have congregated.

They won't be denned up at my place, yet. You are welcome to come out and see if you can find some. I know there are snakes around, but I keep a pistols distance from them. PM me and we can figure out when you can go. Google O.H.Ivie Lake in Concho County. That will give you an idea of where it is.

You gas dens in early spring here in Texas. Not the fall. Have come across rattle bugs around Christmas around here.

My guess is most won't want someone walking around their place gasing dens right before deer season. Best of luck to you though. They are still moving around pretty good on my place.

I killed four last year in late November in the Panhandle and they were not very slow moving. I agree with the others, the early spring is probably best in Texas. If I'm down at my place then (March), I'd be happy for you to come down and clean out every rattler you could find. Heck, I'd feed you lunch too. up

Thanks for the info guys. I didn't consider the deer hunting disturbance as where we have rattlesnakes here, you usually won't intefere with the deer hunting areas. It sounds like it would be wiser to wait until March. That should work as I don't actually need the meat until March 19th. Kry226, Bentman, and Daulongranch: I will touch base with you early next year to see if we can work something out. Thanks again!
