Just got through setting up my new Barnett M4 /with my ATN night vision scope 5x18
(kind of over kill on the scope) but will be able to video the shots as they are happening. Just going to set the bow for a 50 yard zero and practice on closer shots to see how much correction will be needed. will pull the Quiver off and use the bottom Picatinny rail to mount my IR illuminator or will add a IR light panel to my feeder. Scope can be used for Day or Night hunting . someone hunting with you close can also log in with there phone or tablet and see what you see via the built in Wi-Fi server on the scope.

Will be sighting it in this weekend ( will get the correct x,y offset for the bow) then I can switch scope back and forth between weapons.

Now, now. Crossbows were around long before compound bows.

Rifle is too noisy @ least until I go through getting a stamp and suppressor.
I did my time with a Compound Bow for many years. I now have a Bionic shoulder and I am not sure pulling a 80# compound did not contribute to it( shot 3D a lot and speed was king, also young and bulletproof @ the time) . Anyway Doc said no more Bows, don't want to tear up his work or have to go thru that again any sooner than necessary. Thought I was done with Bows forever, BUT: Walking thru the Archery Section I see a bunch of crossbows & I Never had a hunting crossbow before / kind of interested to see how well it will work.

Really? Do you have a crank for drawing? When I had my right shoulder repaired I bought a crossbow to get me through until I could shoot my vertical bow again. Unfortunately it was so tough to draw with the cord and wheels thing I never did hunt with it. And even in practice, when a friend cocked it for me, the recoil hurt so much where they reattached my bicep tendon I couldn't shoot it right handed.

I still have it and let kids and inexperienced folk shoot it. I also dialed back to 60 lbs on my draw weight. But there are smooth, easy cam bows out there that help a busted up fella. However a crossbow is effective for one shot. Then the act of re cocking, not to mention the noise of the shot, pretty much ends the hunt.

I don't have the answer to many of your questions yet but will have after this weekend.

1) starting with the two handed rope cocking method to begin with if I can't will go to a Crank it requires 17lb of effort to [censored] the bow

2) I am shooting shotguns so recoil should not be a problem

3) Hopefully one shot will work(can always carry a pistol if you need to put something down)even using a compound I don't remember getting 2nd shots

4) Bow and stirrup has vibration/noise damping system built in / may add string damping whiskers or see what is avialble for crossbows

There is no quiet cross bow. If it takes only 17 pounds to draw it I wonder because the draw tool, string and wheels, does cut the draw weight to one half which is split to two hands meaning 1/4 of total weight per hand but on a 150lb draw how that is still 37.5 pounds per hand and it doubles the length you have to pull to get to full draw. This means your hands are up at or even above your sh I ulcers at full draw and that is what kicks my butt with two reconstructed shoulders.

BTW I currently shoot a Hoyt Carbon Spyder set at 60 lbs and it's much easier to draw than my crossbow.

The rope cocking method is exactly the way you describe it. Tried it this weekend with a Ten Point retractable cocking rope and it broke about 1 inch from the handle on the very first pull. rope and pieces went flying everywhere left a blood blister on palm of hand and little finger / bow basically dry fired from 3/4 pull not good . will return and buy a Barnett hand crank system this is what takes the cocking effort down to 17 lbs

This is the 10 point retractable rope pull system:

I will replace with this:

Glad you are okay. I would ask them to exchange the bow as well. A dry fire can cause damage that is hard to see.
