Does anyone know why the F they are starting the south zone a week earlier than the north zone? My guess is to clear out some BWT and Redheads.

This is the reasoning behind early start.
Having more days of duck season in November and December in the SouthZone and more during December and January in the North Zone is aimed at improving hunter success and satisfaction, Kraai said. Several years of harvest data indicate waterfowlers in the South Zone have their best success during November and least success during January.
"It's just the opposite in the North Zone," he said. "January is their best month, followed by December. November is the slowest month in the North Zone."

I'd rather have the extra week in January personally. I hunt the North and some in the HPMMU. I like the chance to get those fully plumed drakes in late January.

I like the dates for the North Zone. It seems we always do best in December and the last two years they placed the split right during our prime time. So I like the way it is structured this year. I also like how canvasbacks are back to 2 bird limit. Seemed like the last two years the season started to early and the split too late. That extra week in November to start duck season can make a big difference to have a good opener.

Supposedly at least - second split is always the best up north. November is pretty harsh around here.

Just curious where'd you get your dates from? I just checked the TPWD website and it's showing the south getting the early start but only shows till 1/24 for the north on regular season. Wonder which ones right? TPWD Website

Texas north/south zones are allowed 74 days, if the north zones are right with the closing on the 24 then we are short.

I'd ask him if he's pregnant. He missed a s__tload of periods. I'll take "things that look like a uterus" for $200 Alex.
